Product Costs (COGS)

Last updated: October 2026

Who needs COGS?

Plan COGS in app
Free Upgrade to Growth to manage costs in CodeRally
Growth Import/sync/edit costs; margin previews on promos; profit analytics
Scale Same as Growth + Sync costs to checkout for auto-cap/block

Without cost, CodeRally still suggests discounts: but margin %, Profit impact, and checkout enforcement all need unit cost per SKU.

Why add costs?

  • See estimated margin before you Apply a promotion
  • Filter and review promotions below your margin floor
  • Power Analytics → Profit impact and checkout profit views
  • On Scale, feed Margin Cap and Margin Guard validation at checkout

How to add costs

  1. Sync from Shopify: import "Cost per item" from variants where you already maintain it in Shopify Admin.
  2. CSV import: upload a file with SKU and cost columns on the Product Costs page.
  3. Manual edit: edit costs inline on the Product Costs grid.
  4. Import URL: point to a hosted CSV for recurring updates.

Coverage

The app shows % of variants with cost (COGS coverage). Aim for high coverage before trusting checkout enforcement. Profit impact may stay in "partial" mode until you reach the app's coverage threshold (shown in Analytics).

Where costs are stored

CodeRally stores costs in its own database for analytics and previews. Importing into CodeRally does not overwrite your Shopify "Cost per item" field by default.

Sync costs to checkout (Scale only)

Checkout functions cannot read CodeRally's database directly. After COGS changes:

  1. Enable Additional store features.
  2. Settings → Margin Guard → Sync costs to checkout.
  3. Re-run after bulk import or large catalog changes.

Details: Checkout enforcement.
